Air India has become the first airline in Asia to integrate Apple AirTag technology into its baggage tracking system, offering travelers enhanced peace of mind with real-time luggage updates via iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
Revolutionizing Baggage Tracking for Apple Users
With the latest update to Air India’s mobile app and website, passengers can now seamlessly track their baggage using Apple’s Find My network. By syncing Apple AirTags with their checked luggage, users can monitor their bags throughout the journey with pinpoint accuracy.
This innovative feature is available to passengers who save their trip details in the “My Trips” section of the Air India app. In addition to updates directly from airport systems, travelers can also scan the barcode on their baggage receipt for instant tracking.
Dr. Satya Ramaswamy, Chief Digital & Technology Officer at Air India, stated:
“We are confident that travelers will appreciate the enhanced baggage tracking made possible by Apple’s AirTag and the Share Item Location feature, integrated with Air India’s real-time tracking platform.”
How to Use Apple AirTag with Air India
If your checked baggage is equipped with an AirTag and goes missing, here’s a step-by-step guide to help you recover it quickly:
1. Report the Loss
Visit the Air India Baggage Counter at the airport to file a Property Irregularity Report (PIR).
2. Share AirTag Location
Using Apple’s Find My app, generate a Share Item Location link and send it to Air India through one of the following methods:
- Via Mobile App:
- Go to the Customer Support Portal
- Select Baggage → Lost and Found Check-in Baggage
- Submit the AirTag location link
- Via Website:
- Navigate to the Lost and Found Check-in Baggage section
- Submit the AirTag link along with your PIR number
Air India will email you a secure link to monitor your baggage status.
3. Track and Reclaim
Air India’s airport teams will utilize the shared AirTag link to trace your bag within the airport and return it to you promptly.
For privacy, location sharing automatically ends once the bag is returned or after 7 days—whichever comes first. You can also manually stop tracking anytime.
Why This Matters for Frequent Flyers
This integration marks a significant leap in travel tech, especially for iOS users flying with Air India. With the ability to track lost or delayed luggage in real time, passengers gain greater control and confidence while flying.
Air India’s forward-thinking approach not only sets a new benchmark for airlines in Asia but also reinforces its commitment to a more secure, tech-driven travel experience.
