The Regional Passport Officer of Bengaluru, K Krishna, has announced the launch of a mobile Passport Seva Camp to improve accessibility for residents in areas without a Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or a Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK). This initiative aims to simplify the passport application process by enabling applicants to submit documents locally, eliminating the need for long-distance travel.

Implemented in collaboration with Tata Consultancy Services, the mobile service can process up to 40 applications daily. The van will be equipped with staff who will collect application forms, capture photographs and biometrics, and verify the submitted documents. Once processed, the passport will be delivered directly to the applicant’s residence, removing the need for a visit to the passport office.

The operational details are currently being finalized, with initial plans to deploy the service in Tumakuru, Chikkamagaluru, and interior regions of North Karnataka. In Bengaluru, where two passport offices and a POPSK already exist, the van will be dispatched only in special cases, such as university requests for student passports or centers housing individuals with disabilities who face difficulties in visiting passport offices.

Similar mobile passport services have already been introduced in cities like Ranchi and Patna, and this initiative in Bengaluru aims to extend the benefits of convenient passport processing to underserved areas.
