Solapur to Get Direct Air Connectivity to Mumbai with New Flight Service

After the successful launch of the Solapur–Goa flight route in June 2025, Solapur is gearing up for another major boost in air connectivity. A new direct flight service from Solapur to Mumbai has been approved, promising faster and more convenient travel for residents, business travelers, and tourists.

Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol announced on Monday that the Maharashtra State Cabinet has sanctioned Viability Gap Funding (VGF) for the route, ensuring its operational viability under the UDAN regional connectivity scheme. This approval paves the way for the flight’s commencement in the near future, with schedules expected to be announced soon.

The upcoming Solapur–Mumbai direct flight is set to cut down travel time significantly compared to road or rail journeys, which typically take 7–8 hours. This new air link will not only benefit frequent flyers but also boost tourism, trade, and economic activity in the region.

The decision comes as part of the government’s continuous efforts to enhance regional air connectivity in Maharashtra, making travel easier and more efficient for tier-2 and tier-3 cities. With the Solapur–Goa route already operational and witnessing good passenger response, the addition of the Mumbai service is expected to further strengthen Solapur’s position on the aviation map.

Key Highlights of the Solapur–Mumbai Flight Route:

  • Direct air connectivity between Solapur and Mumbai
  • Approved Viability Gap Funding (VGF) by the Maharashtra State Cabinet
  • Expected to operate under the UDAN scheme
  • Significant reduction in travel time from 7–8 hours to under 1.5 hours
  • Likely to boost tourism, trade, and business opportunities

With Solapur now connected to both Goa and soon Mumbai, the city is poised to become a more prominent travel hub in western Maharashtra.
