Ganesh Chaturthi Celebrated in Thailand: Replica of Pune’s Iconic Dagdusheth Ganpati Installed in Phuket
Ganesh Chaturthi, one of Maharashtra’s most cherished festivals, reached a historic milestone this year as it made its grand debut in Thailand. For the very first time, a magnificent replica of Pune’s legendary Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati was installed and immersed in the sea at Phuket, marking a new chapter in the global celebration of Indian culture.
The event took place at a newly constructed 50-foot temple near Rawai Beach in southern Phuket. This temple, named the Lord Shreemant Ganpati Bappa Temple, is inspired by Pune’s iconic 130-year-old Dagdusheth Mandir. The vision behind this ambitious project is credited to Thai entrepreneur Papa Son Mipa, CEO of Phuket 9 Real Estate Company Limited.
Constructed over 15 months at a cost of approximately ₹9 crore, the temple not only enshrines the replica of Dagdusheth Ganpati but also features idols of Siddhi Mata, Buddhi Mata, and a panchadhatu (five-metal) Ganesha, carefully designed to mirror the spiritual ambiance of the original shrine in Pune.
This remarkable event not only strengthens cultural ties between India and Thailand but also signifies the global appeal of Lord Ganesha, spreading devotion and tradition far beyond Indian borders.
