In a moment of pride for India and the global space community, Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla and his Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4) crewmates are all set to make their journey back to Earth today, July 15, 2025, after nearly 20 days aboard the International Space Station (ISS).
The crew’s splashdown is scheduled for approximately 3:01 PM IST in the Pacific Ocean, off the coast of California. Their safe return marks the successful completion of one of the most ambitious private space missions to date.
A Mission Packed With Science and Innovation
During their stay on the ISS, the Ax-4 crew conducted over 60 advanced scientific experiments, collaborating with researchers and institutions from 31 countries. The focus areas included space medicine, material sciences, microgravity effects, and advanced robotics.
Shukla played a pivotal role in several of these experiments, contributing to research that is expected to yield significant breakthroughs in space technology and life sciences. The mission aligns with India’s growing prominence in the field of space exploration and human spaceflight.
Cargo and Research Return to Earth
Along with the crew, the returning capsule will carry more than 580 pounds of critical cargo, including:
- High-value NASA hardware
- Biological samples
- Data from cutting-edge space research
This payload is crucial for scientists on Earth to further analyze the results and continue developing technologies for future space missions.
A Step Closer to India’s Space Dreams
Shubhanshu Shukla’s participation in the Axiom Mission 4 highlights India’s expanding role in international space missions and paves the way for future Indian astronauts aboard commercial and national spaceflights. His return is being closely watched by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and other key players in India’s space ecosystem.
