IndiGo, Akasa & Air India Express to Operate Daily Flights from Navi Mumbai International Airport
Updated on December 26, 2025
The long-awaited Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) has officially taken flight, marking a historic moment for Indian aviation and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Operations commenced on Thursday with an IndiGo Airbus A320 arriving from Bengaluru at exactly 8:00 am, becoming the first commercial aircraft to touch down at the new airport. The same aircraft departed for Hyderabad at 8:40 am, signaling the smooth start of scheduled services.
Daily Flights by Major Airlines from NMIA
With operations now live, Akasa Air, Air India Express, and IndiGo are set to operate daily flights from Navi Mumbai International Airport. These services are expected to connect key domestic routes, offering travelers faster access, reduced congestion, and more flexible travel options.
Aviation experts believe NMIA will significantly ease pressure on the existing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, which has been operating near peak capacity for years.
Mumbai Joins the League of Global Multi-Airport Cities
With the launch of NMIA, Mumbai now joins an elite group of global aviation hubs that operate multiple airports to meet rising passenger demand. Cities such as London, New York, Moscow, Tokyo, and Shanghai have long relied on multi-airport systems to manage growing air traffic efficiently.
Airport authorities stated that the new facility is designed to support long-term growth, improve operational resilience, and elevate passenger experience across the region.
Strategic Boost for Aviation, Tourism & Business
Navi Mumbai International Airport is expected to become a major catalyst for economic growth, driving investments in aviation, logistics, tourism, and hospitality. Its strategic location near emerging business districts and industrial hubs will make it especially attractive for both full-service and low-cost carriers.
Passengers can also expect:
- Reduced travel time to and from the airport
- Better slot availability for airlines
- Smoother connections for domestic and international travel
What This Means for Travelers
For flyers, NMIAโs launch translates into more flight choices, competitive fares, and less congestion. As additional routes and airlines are rolled out in phases, the airport is set to become a critical gateway for western India.
With IndiGo, Akasa Air, and Air India Express already operating daily services, Navi Mumbai International Airport has taken a confident first step toward becoming one of Indiaโs most important aviation hubs.
Stay tuned as more routes, airlines, and international operations are announced from Navi Mumbai International Airport in the coming months. โ๏ธ
