After years of delays and uncertainty, the Maharashtra government has made significant progress toward the construction of Purandar Airport by approving the land acquisition process. During a recent high-level committee meeting, State Industrial Minister Uday Samant announced that the land would be acquired using the ‘pass-through method,’ ensuring that farmers receive compensation amounting to five times the ready reckoner rates. This marks a crucial breakthrough for the long-pending project, which has encountered multiple obstacles since its initial announcement in 2016.

As per an official notification from the industries, energy, labour, and mining department, a total of 2,823 hectares of land across seven villages in Purandar taluka has been earmarked as an industrial zone.

This includes 2,753 hectares of privately owned land and 70 hectares under the state forest department. The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) will oversee the land acquisition process, paving the way for the long-awaited commencement of airport construction.
