Odisha Clears 55 New Hotel Projects Worth ₹3,211 Crore, Boosting Tourism Across the State

In a significant push to strengthen tourism and hospitality infrastructure, the Odisha government has approved 55 new hotel and accommodation projects since July 2024. With a combined investment of ₹3,211.32 crore, the approvals mark a major step toward expanding the state’s ability to host both domestic and international travellers.

According to details presented during the most recent state assembly session, the approved projects span a wide spectrum — from luxury five-star hotels and branded resorts to eco-friendly retreats and experiential stays. This diverse pipeline reflects Odisha’s evolving tourism strategy that balances premium hospitality with sustainable development.
Bhubaneswar Remains a Hospitality Hotspot

The state capital, Bhubaneswar, continues to attract the highest concentration of hotel investments, reinforcing its status as a key urban and business tourism hub. However, developers are increasingly exploring emerging and lesser-known destinations, signalling a shift beyond traditional city-centric growth.

Focus on Untapped and Tribal Regions

A notable trend among the newly approved projects is the focus on remote, tribal, and ecologically rich districts. Areas such as Koraput, Keonjhar, Kandhamal, and Ganjam are witnessing a surge in resort and nature-stay developments. These projects aim to cater to travellers seeking offbeat, scenic, and culturally immersive experiences, aligning with the rising demand for sustainable and experiential tourism.

Global Hotel Brands Strengthen Presence

Several leading international and Indian hospitality brands are anchoring the luxury segment of this expansion. Prominent names include World of Hyatt, ITC Hotels, and Accor in Bhubaneswar. Meanwhile, Marriott Bonvoy is strengthening its footprint in Puri, while Radisson Hotels is expanding operations in both Ganjam and Puri.

One of the most visually striking developments is planned near Somolo Island in Chilika Lake, further enhancing Odisha’s appeal as a destination for luxury nature tourism.
