SpiceJet has introduced a new direct flight connecting Pune to Varanasi as part of its summer schedule, effective from March 30. This latest addition marks the only new route launched from Pune Airport, further strengthening the city’s domestic connectivity.
Flight Schedule and Frequency
The Pune to Varanasi flight will operate six days a week, departing at 12:30 AM (excluding Saturdays). This move aims to cater to the increasing demand for seamless domestic travel, particularly for religious and leisure travelers heading to the spiritual city of Varanasi.
Pune Airport’s Expanding Operations
A senior official at Pune Airport stated that out of the 109 available flight slots, 104 slots have already been occupied. While no new international routes have been announced, the official added, “We anticipate airlines to utilize the remaining slots as the schedule progresses. Once all slots are filled, the total flight movements will reach 218 per day.”
On Sunday alone, Pune Airport managed 204 flight movements, including 102 arrivals and 102 departures. The operational efficiency has been notably improved since the opening of the new terminal in mid-last year.
Enhancing Domestic and International Connectivity
According to Pune Airport Director Santosh Dhoke, the airport now offers direct connectivity to 34 domestic destinations across India. For international travelers, direct flights to Singapore, Dubai, and Bangkok continue to serve as major gateways.
Dhoke expressed confidence in Pune’s growing aviation sector, stating, “With the enhanced domestic network and steady international connections, Pune Airport is well-positioned to support increased passenger demand.”
Addressing Passenger Concerns
Despite its growth, Pune Airport continues to face challenges with passenger congestion. Many travelers have voiced concerns about the taxi pick-up experience at AeroMall, urging authorities to streamline the process for smoother passenger transitions.
Nationwide Growth in Air Travel
On a broader scale, India’s aviation sector is witnessing significant growth. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) reported a 5.5% increase in weekly flights compared to last year. Indian carriers will operate 25,610 weekly flights across 129 airports between March 30 and October 25, up from 24,257 weekly flights in the previous year.
As SpiceJet continues its network expansion, passengers from Pune can now enjoy greater connectivity and travel convenience. Stay tuned for further updates on flight schedules and enhanced airport services.
